A new page opens in the history of Agdam. Today, its residents are returning to the city, which was turned into ruins during the years of occupation. This return is not only physical in nature but also represents a historical response to the great injustice that lasted for almost 30 years.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stated at a meeting with Agdam residents that the complete destruction of the city was not accidental.

"This was a deliberate policy of the Armenian state, a clear example of hostile attitude toward us. And the goal was absolutely clear. First, looting. After all, all buildings were dismantled into stones, which were stolen and sold in different places, on the territory of Armenia. On the other hand, the Armenian state wanted to completely erase the historical heritage of the Azerbaijani people in these regions. But they miscalculated. We, our people, lived all these painful years with one goal - to return to our ancestral lands and after returning to restore these lands, these cities and villages. The Azerbaijani people never reconciled with the occupation," said the head of the country.

The head of state noted that during the years of occupation, damage was done not only to Azerbaijani territories but also to the concept of international justice. In his speech, the President emphasized that the position of the West and a number of international institutions during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict became a clear example of discrimination.

UN Security Council resolutions remained on paper, while no sanctions were applied against the occupier. Moreover, Armenia received political, financial, and military support from various sources, and representatives of the separatist regime were received in several European capitals. Fundraising campaigns were conducted in the USA and France.

According to President Ilham Aliyev, all this indicated that it was not international legal norms that operated, but double standards.
