The US Embassy urges its citizens to leave Iran through the border with Azerbaijan

The US Virtual Embassy in Iran has called on its citizens to leave the country.
As reported by BAKU.WS, the corresponding notification was published on the website of the virtual diplomatic mission.
"US citizens should not visit Iran for any reason, and if they are there, they should immediately leave the territory of this country. US citizens who cannot leave Iran should be prepared to remain in shelter for an extended period," the notification states.
It is noted that Washington does not have diplomatic or consular relations with Tehran, and Switzerland acts as the protecting power for US interests. The embassy suggested that its citizens leave Iran through the border with Azerbaijan, Armenia, or Turkey.
It is noted that US citizens can enter Azerbaijan through the "Astara" border checkpoint. Before heading to the border, they must obtain permission from the Azerbaijani government. The mission reported that citizens wishing to cross into Azerbaijan should contact the US Embassy in Baku.
