The investigation into the cigarette smuggling case worth 5 million manats has been completed.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Qafqazinfo, the suspects have been presented with final charges.

The case materials have been handed over to the defense for review.

The defendants in the case include the owner of the Govsan international maritime trade port Ruslan Eyyubov, the port chief Rashad Dashdemirov, the head of the port unit of the Main Customs Administration for Maritime Transport and Energy Resources Farid Usubov, and other individuals.

After the review stage is completed, the collected materials will be submitted for consideration to the Baku Court on Grave Crimes.

The defendants are charged under the following articles of the Criminal Code: 206.4 – large-scale smuggling committed by an organized group; 213-1.2.1, 213-1.2.2, 213-1.2.3 – storage for the purpose of sale of goods subject to mandatory excise stamp labeling without such stamps, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy, repeatedly, on a large scale; 308.2 – abuse of official authority resulting in grave consequences.

These offenses are classified as especially grave crimes.

The criminal case was investigated by the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General. All defendants have been in custody since December of last year.
