The foundation of the Khankendi railway and bus station complex has been laid

On July 3, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev and the chairman of "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC Rovshan Rustamov informed the head of state about the upcoming work and the Aghdam - Khankendi railway project.

It was noted that the length of the Aghdam - Khankendi railway line, which is a continuation of the Barda - Aghdam railway line, is 28 km, and with access roads - 34.7 km. Design work for the Aghdam - Khankendi railway line, including 4 bridges, 5 overpasses, 3 pedestrian crossings, 2 culverts, has been completed. Along this railway line, the construction of three stations is planned - Askeran and Khojaly stations, Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex, engineering structures, bridges, overpasses, road crossings and agricultural crossings, and other necessary infrastructure. The project implementation will cover 2025-2026.

It was brought to attention that the design of the Khankendi railway and bus terminal complex has already begun. The complex will be located on an area of 6.4 hectares. The complex will include 2 railway platforms and 12 bus stops. The five-story building of the complex will house a waiting room, ticket offices, a medical center, a mother and child room, shops, restaurants, administrative offices and meeting rooms, a children's entertainment center, open terraces and rest areas. The railway part of the complex will serve 800 - 1,000 passengers, and the bus station - 1,000 - 1,200 passengers per day.

It should be noted that the Aghdam - Khankendi railway was built in 1979 on the initiative and under the leadership of national leader Heydar Aliyev. The great leader, who always paid great attention to the development of Karabakh, attached special importance to laying railway lines to this region. Thanks to the opening of the Baku - Yevlakh - Khankendi railway, the socio-economic and cultural development of Karabakh accelerated even more.
