The Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran discussed the situation in the region
On March 1, 2026, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, during the conversation, the situation resulting from military operations in Iran and military escalation in the region was discussed.
The Iranian Foreign Minister provided information on the current situation and the steps being taken.
Jeyhun Bayramov expressed serious concern over the tragic escalation of the situation in the region and conveyed condolences in connection with the death of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and civilian casualties.
Hope was expressed for the earliest possible cessation of military operations and the resolution of the situation exclusively on the basis of the norms and principles of international law, through dialogue and diplomacy.
At the same time, it was emphasized that the territory of Azerbaijan cannot be used by any country against the neighboring and friendly Iran.
During the conversation, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
