The EU is closely monitoring the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia
Behind the scenes, the European Union is closely monitoring the situation in the region.
This was stated by a high-ranking EU representative at a briefing in Brussels, responding to a question from the European bureau of Report.
"Thank you for mentioning these important negotiations. We are closely following what is happening in the region, also encouraging both sides to come to a normalization of relations and successfully complete peace negotiations," she emphasized.
At the same time, according to her, the issue of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia is not included in the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers, which will take place at the beginning of next week in Brussels.
"However, foreign ministers may wish to express their support for the peace process between the parties," added the EU representative.
Note that on July 10, a meeting took place in Abu Dhabi between the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. The leaders discussed issues of peaceful settlement and agreed to continue bilateral negotiations, as well as steps to build trust between the countries.
