Presidential Assistant: Azerbaijan Often Becomes a Target of International Disinformation Campaigns

Azerbaijan frequently becomes the target of international disinformation campaigns.

As Report informs, this was stated by Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev, speaking at the IV Shusha Global Media Forum.

According to him, in recent years Azerbaijan has been conducting comprehensive modernization of the media environment.

"These reforms are aimed at strengthening professional journalism, enhancing institutional capacity, promoting ethical standards, developing media literacy, and facilitating the adaptation of media to rapid technological changes. Media reform is about building sustainable institutions, supporting independent journalism, increasing resilience to disinformation, and strengthening public trust," he noted.

Hikmet Hajiyev stated that Azerbaijan regularly becomes the target of international disinformation campaigns.

"Many politicians and experts have observed large-scale disinformation and discrediting campaigns directed against Azerbaijan. We fact-check these claims and provide evidence-based responses. However, proving the truth has become more difficult today, as technology giants and some institutions that should fulfill the role of professional journalism sometimes actively participate in spreading disinformation themselves.

Governments, media organizations, technology companies, the academic community, and civil society bear a shared responsibility for shaping an accurate, transparent, and accountable information environment," the Presidential Assistant emphasized.

He added that trust can be restored through dialogue, professional journalism, and mutual respect.
