President of Azerbaijan: We will achieve not a long-term, but an eternal peace in the Caucasus
It's a great honor for me to receive such a prestigious award as the "Zayed Award for Human Fraternity," especially because it bears the name of the UAE's founder, the late Sheikh Zayed. And I consider this a recognition of our efforts to establish peace in the Caucasus after more than thirty years of bloodshed, conflicts, and wars.
As reported by AZERTAG, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated this on January 20 in an interview with Euronews in Davos.
The head of state noted that today the South Caucasus is entering a new stage of development. "We have been living in peace for only 5-6 months; we are learning this. Throughout our entire independent history, we have never lived in peace. And this is a special feeling. And, of course, it's a wonderful opportunity. Today, relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan are already growing into cooperation. We have removed all restrictions on cargo transportation to Armenia. Moreover, we have begun supplying critical goods to Armenia, primarily petroleum products, on which that country largely depends. And this is a mutually beneficial situation. Therefore, I think that through the joint efforts of Armenia and Azerbaijan, including civil society, we will achieve not long-term, but eternal peace in the Caucasus. This is our goal," added President Ilham Aliyev.
