President of Azerbaijan: I consider our membership in the D-8 organization as a great achievement

I regard our membership in the D-8 organization as a great achievement. After all, this organization was created about 30 years ago, and since its foundation, it has not accepted any new members.

As reported by AZERTAG, this was said on January 5 by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in an interview with local TV channels.

Emphasizing that Azerbaijan is the only new member of the D-8 organization, which unites the largest countries of the Muslim world, the head of state said: "The total population of the countries united in this organization exceeds one billion people, and their combined economy amounts to more than four trillion. Azerbaijan cannot be considered a large country either by population or by economy. Our official participation there, of course, is a sign of respect for us and the result of our independent policy. And we immediately began active work."
