President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation of the Hakarichay reservoir in Lachin on July 11.

As reported by AZERTAG, Chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan Zaur Mikailov briefed President Ilham Aliyev on the project.

It was noted that according to the project, a reservoir with a total capacity of 100 million cubic meters and a useful volume of 90 million cubic meters is planned to be built on the Hakarichay River, which forms within the borders of Azerbaijan. A main pipeline with a throughput capacity of 8 cubic meters per second and a length of approximately 172 km will also be constructed.

This infrastructure will have the potential to supply quality drinking water at a rate of 2.5 cubic meters per second to approximately 700,000 people in the Lachin, Gubadli, Zangilan, Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Khojavend, and Aghdam districts.

On the main pipeline fed by the Hakarichay reservoir, the construction of three hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) with a total capacity of 10.81 MW is also planned.

It should be noted that the Hakarichay reservoir, along with ensuring an uninterrupted supply of quality drinking water to the population, will play an important role in the rational management of water resources in the territories liberated from occupation, improving the water supply of the region as well as other major cities of the country, and supporting the socio-economic development of the regions.
