Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, stated that his country did not attack Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Tehran has never aimed to attack its neighbors.

This was reported by Tasnim.

"The President of Iran firmly rejected the claims regarding Iran's attack on Azerbaijan, calling these rumors a conspiracy by enemies to undermine fraternal relations between neighbors," the agency cited a statement from the press service of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As a reminder, on the afternoon of March 5, drone attacks were carried out from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. One of the drones struck the terminal building of Nakhchivan Airport, while another fell near a school building in the village of Shekerabad. The airport building was damaged, and four people were injured as a result of the incident.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan strongly condemned the attack, stating that this assault on Azerbaijani territory contradicts the norms and principles of international law and contributes to the escalation of tensions in the region. The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Damirchilu, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Defense placed full responsibility for the incident on the Islamic Republic of Iran, assuring that such acts of aggression would not go unanswered. A criminal case has been opened by the Prosecutor General's Office regarding Iran's drone attack on civilian infrastructure in Nakhchivan.
