Pashinyan accused opposition forces of preparing a new war with Azerbaijan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expects that the political force he leads will receive enough votes in the June 7 parliamentary elections to form a constitutional majority in parliament. According to the prime minister, this is precisely what will allow them to make the processes in the context of regional peace fully irreversible.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Armenian media, he stated this at a briefing after a government session.
"We expect to obtain a constitutional majority as a result of these elections, because this is precisely what guarantees that, in particular, in the context of regional peace, we will make the processes completely irreversible," the prime minister said.
Nikol Pashinyan, without naming names, accused some opposition forces of preparing a new war with Azerbaijan. The Armenian politician stated that some of these forces do not even understand what they are declaring, since part of their statements are written elsewhere, and they simply read them out.
"These parties and these circles, firstly, state that they are not against peace, and secondly, they say that upon coming to power, they will begin to revise the peace. I want to say very directly, without any hypocrisy, that this means war, with the loss not only of territory but also of sovereignty for Armenia.
Some of them apparently do not even understand what they are saying, because it is obvious to me that the texts they are quoting, at least some of them, are written somewhere else, and they themselves are merely readers. Moreover, forces and political figures who do not understand what they are saying should, of course, have no official status in Armenia.
All these forces operate from the position of revising the peace, which in fact means inevitable war, perhaps not immediately after the elections, but at the latest by autumn. I analyze the texts, don't I? All these forces, if necessary I will name their names, it is clear, I believe that some of them do not even understand what they are saying, but they are preparing a new September war with serious consequences," Pashinyan said.
In response to an additional question about why these forces want to unleash a new war, the prime minister replied: "The goal is completely clear, because they seek to keep Armenia on the periphery, as it was during their rule. They see that Armenia has become independent, and they have a problem with that, because they are emissaries tasked with preventing Armenia from becoming independent. Yesterday or the day before yesterday I saw some pictures: 'Strong peace,' or the day before yesterday headlines: 'Forgive us, "Artsakh" (Karabakh — ed.), we don't know what to do.' What does all this mean? All of this is about revising the peace, and an attempt to revise the peace is war. Or they say: 'Ararat is ours,' 'Dadivank is ours.' That is war."
Answering the question of what these forces would gain from war, Pashinyan emphasized that they would benefit from war by being an outpost, not rulers of a state, because time has shown that this is financially beneficial for them. "They will also preserve the billions they have in some countries, because they were sent here and told that if you don't solve the problem, what is formally registered in your name will cease to exist. These main forces, all three of them, operating from this position, have billions in assets in Russia and Belarus. Now they have been told that if you want to keep these assets, work, sweat, run, do stretches, push-ups — 30 times. They won't be able to do it, I don't see a person there who could do stretches 30 times or ride a bicycle 100 kilometers," Pashinyan said.
