Nga Kor Ming: Azerbaijan broke the attendance record at WUF13
Malaysia is glad that Azerbaijan has broken the World Urban Forum (WUF13) attendance record previously set by Kuala Lumpur.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by the current President of the UN-Habitat Assembly Nga Kor Ming at the opening ceremony of the Malaysian pavilion within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
According to him, during WUF9 in Kuala Lumpur, the forum became the largest event of its kind at the time, attracting more than 25,000 participants.
"We are glad to see that today this record has been broken by Azerbaijan - the number of participants has reached 42,000. This shows that we are moving in the right direction, raising people's awareness that we have a common mission and a common future," Ming emphasized.
He noted that Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to the forum's theme - "Housing the World: Safe and Sustainable Cities and Communities," as well as its readiness to cooperate in creating inclusive and sustainable cities.
Nga Kor Ming also noted that today nearly 80% of Malaysia's population lives in cities, and the country views urbanization as an opportunity for innovation and development.
According to him, by 2023, the number of affordable homes in Malaysia exceeded 1.1 million, surpassing the targets of the country's 12th plan. Currently, over 511,000 affordable homes have been built in the country, and the homeownership rate has reached 77%.
