Mayor Muriel Bowser declared May 28 as Azerbaijan Independence Day in the city of Washington
Mayor of Washington, D.C. Muriel Bowser, in connection with the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, declared May 28, 2026, as Azerbaijan Independence Day in the U.S. capital and signed a proclamation.
As reported by BAKU.WS, it states that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence.
"The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, by carrying out visionary administrative reforms, ensured full civil and political rights for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, social status, or gender. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Washington and the active Azerbaijani community of the city are an integral part of the cultural, educational, and economic fabric of the capital," the proclamation states.
