"This means that all communities, policymakers, leaders at the local, regional and national levels, as well as representatives at the global level, civil society, youth and the private sector must together build a dialogue to discuss the challenges of urbanization. The main topic now is providing the world with housing. I believe that the housing issue is one of the most important areas not only in Baku, but also throughout the world, especially in Malaysia."

As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur Maimunah Binti Mohd Sharif, who is participating in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

Linking the housing issue with urban development, the Mayor emphasized that housing and cities are inextricably linked to each other:

"Housing is not just a roof over one's head, it is also about human dignity and the integrity of society.

When speaking about housing, three key 'A' principles must be considered. Housing must be affordable, accessible and adequate. If affordable housing is located far from workplaces, this is unacceptable, as such a situation will only exacerbate the problems of urbanization."

It should be noted that the forum, which will last until May 22, is organized jointly by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Government of Azerbaijan.

WUF13 is considered one of the most important international platforms, which will once again draw the attention of the global community to Azerbaijan.

The registration of more than 40,000 participants from 182 countries is regarded as a record-breaking figure in the history of the forum.
