The visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia played an important role in the signing of a historic package of agreements between the two countries.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by Georgia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili on the air of the "Imedi" TV channel.

According to her, this was also preceded by many months of negotiations.

"The mentioned agreement is of enormous importance for our country. The package of agreements covers two main sectors. The first is the energy sector, and the second is the transport sector. Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of our country, and I would like to particularly emphasize the importance of Azerbaijan in our country's energy sector," she said.

According to the minister, the agreement reached in the energy sector covers gas supplies, gas import and transit, electricity import and transit, as well as the resumption of operations of the suspended Baku-Supsa pipeline.

"We are always guided by three main factors. The first is the uninterrupted supply of gas, the second is commercial conditions, and the third, of course, the diversification policy is important to us. We began negotiations with Azerbaijan on the social gas agreement, which was due to expire at the end of this year. Today it is gratifying that the existing 20-year agreement has been extended, and with the new agreement we will have the opportunity to supply public gas at a social price," Kvrivishvili noted.
