Renewed political commitments are needed to implement the New Urban Agenda.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this was stated by Permanent Representative of Poland to the UN Krzysztof Szczerski at the ministerial-level meeting dedicated to the New Urban Agenda, within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
He emphasized that the meeting is taking place at an important stage of the global urban agenda, when cities are facing growing challenges.
"Despite the fact that nearly ten years have passed since the adoption of the New Urban Agenda, cities continue to face acute housing shortages, rising inequality, the consequences of climate change, forced displacement, as well as increasing pressure on infrastructure and basic services. At the same time, cities remain the main centers of economic development, innovation, and resilience," he noted.
He also emphasized that in accordance with the mandate of the UN General Assembly, the midterm review of the New Urban Agenda, which will take place on July 16-17 in New York, will be an important opportunity to assess the progress achieved, identify existing gaps, and renew political commitments.
