Jeyhun Bayramov: Climate risks are intensifying pressure on national economies

Economic diversification and energy resilience are becoming increasingly important for national security, as the consequences of climate change intensify pressure on economies and public finances.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (CW4).

According to him, the rapid environmental changes occurring on the planet can no longer be viewed as a distant threat.

"The reality of climate change is no longer something distant - its consequences are evident in every corner of the world, including in our region. One of the most vivid examples is the Caspian Sea," the Foreign Minister noted.

Bayramov drew attention to the significant decline in the Caspian Sea level in recent years. According to him, the coastline that can be observed today along the Baku Boulevard already differs noticeably from what existed just a few decades ago.

The minister emphasized that the growing impact of climate change is exerting increasingly serious financial pressure on national economies and public finances.

"Global instability, conflicts, and market volatility are intensifying this pressure. Under the current circumstances, economic diversification and energy resilience are becoming increasingly important for national security, economic stability, and long-term sustainability," Bayramov stated.
