Ilham Aliyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Yukhary Govhar Aga Mosque in Shusha

On July 17, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Yukhary Govhar Aga Mosque in Shusha.

As reported by BAKU.WS, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was informed that in Shusha, as in all our previously occupied territories, historical monuments, including mosques, were destroyed and desecrated. The occupiers destroyed 16 out of 17 mosques in the city. After the liberation of Shusha from occupation, on the instructions of the President of Azerbaijan, restoration work on the mosques began immediately. One of the historical and religious monuments subjected to Armenian vandalism was the Yukhary Govhar Aga Mosque. The restoration work carried out here by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation began in late 2021. On May 10, 2023, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and members of their family, the mosque was reopened after major reconstruction and restoration.

The Yukhary Govhar Aga Mosque is included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of national significance.
