The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will close its mission in Azerbaijan on September 3, 2025, according to the decision of the Azerbaijani government.

BAKU.WS reports that the ICRC has released information about this.

It has been stated that the ICRC will continue to engage with Azerbaijani authorities to support persons protected under international humanitarian law (IHL) in accordance with its mandate and the country's obligations under the Geneva Conventions:

"We intend to continue our dialogue on humanitarian diplomacy, IHL, and other humanitarian issues of mutual interest. Since 1992, the ICRC has helped meet the urgent and necessary needs of people affected by conflict, provided psychosocial support to victims, improved critical infrastructure, and implemented mine risk awareness and safe behavior projects in areas contaminated with mines and other explosive ordnance. The ICRC has supported authorities in promoting the implementation of international humanitarian law and clarifying the fate of persons missing in connection with the conflict.

We have visited persons detained in connection with the conflict, monitoring their detention conditions and treatment, and helping them maintain contact with their families. In all our work, we have closely collaborated with partners such as the Azerbaijan Red Crescent Society, ministries and government agencies, as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies."
