Hikmet Hajiyev held a meeting with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Gurbanmammet Elyasov discussed prospects for strengthening partnership during a meeting.

As BAKU.WS reports, this was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

"During the meeting, the parties compared notes on current issues of bilateral cooperation and highly appreciated the results of 2025, noting it as a new bright page in the history of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations. It was emphasized that the past year was characterized by a rich agenda, including mutual visits at the highest level, as well as active development of cultural and humanitarian exchange," the ministry's statement said.

During the meeting, the parties noted that thanks to the initiatives of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Ilham Aliyev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov, as well as the national leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, bilateral relations are developing in the spirit of brotherhood and strategic partnership.

Further strengthening of cooperation in the energy and transport sectors was emphasized, including projects within the framework of the Middle Corridor, as well as the expansion of cooperation in trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian areas.

In addition, the parties at the meeting considered issues related to upcoming international forums, meetings, and other events planned for 2026 in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.

Special attention was paid to the upcoming 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States and Azerbaijan, which will be held in the fall of 2026 in Turkmenistan. It was emphasized that Azerbaijan's participation for the first time in this format as a full participant will be an important step for further strengthening regional cooperation and dialogue.
