Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sudan Mohieddin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, who is on a visit to our country.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, during the meeting, current issues on the political, economic, humanitarian and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Sudan were discussed. It was noted with satisfaction that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries will be celebrated next year.

The ministers noted that the intensification of political dialogue, mutual visits and political consultations between the foreign ministries make an important contribution to the development of cooperation. In this context, the importance of mutual support and cooperation within the framework of international organizations, particularly the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement, was emphasized.

During the meeting, cooperation opportunities in the fields of energy security, green energy, agriculture, investment, education and humanitarian activities were discussed. The Sudanese side expressed interest in Azerbaijan's experience in the areas of public administration, digital development, infrastructure construction and post-conflict reconstruction. Gratitude was expressed to the Azerbaijani side for the allocation of educational scholarships to Sudanese students. Additionally, the humanitarian aid provided by Azerbaijan in connection with the floods in Sudan and the COVID-19 pandemic was noted with satisfaction.

J. Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information about the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out by our country in the post-conflict period, measures taken in the direction of combating the mine threat, as well as the significance of regional transport and communication projects.

The sides also exchanged views on issues and challenges on the regional and international security agenda.

Other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.

Within the framework of the visit, the ministers signed an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Sudan on mutual exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.
