At today's congress of the Ana Vətən ("Homeland") party, a serious conflict occurred related to the selection of a new chairman. Serious disagreements arose between the children of the current party leader Fazail Agamaly regarding who should lead the political organization.

Fazail Agamaly planned to transfer leadership of the party to his daughter, MP Gunay Agamaly. However, some party members supported the candidacy of his son, Elchin Agamaly, which led to a tense situation at the congress.

In a telephone conversation broadcast on Müsavat TV channel, Fazail Agamaly expressed deep regret about what happened at the 9th party congress.

"This is especially difficult for me since the problems were created by my own son. It's hard for me to talk about this. I have always been a person who had special love for family values and my children. I am conservative in family matters. I don't understand why my son continues to take such an aggressive position," the politician noted.

Speaking about his son's political activities, Fazail Agamaly gave an unflattering assessment: "Elchin did not have active involvement in the party. Search the internet for the name Elchin Agamaly, he only started posting on Facebook in 2024. He was my deputy, I was preparing him for political activity, took him to serious political meetings. As a father, I did everything possible for his development and future. In the party, he dealt with organizational issues, controlled communication between headquarters and organizational structures.

However, he never openly expressed his political position. After 2017, he even distanced himself from the duties he performed in the party. He participated in my parliamentary elections - as my son. In 2020, I invited him to my office and said that I would not participate in the next parliamentary elections and was planning to step down as party chairman. He refused to take over leadership, citing a large amount of work and problems. I repeated this offer several times and each time heard the same answer. Later, in 2020, Gunay Agamaly expressed a desire to work in the party as a functionary, and I agreed. I saw sufficient activity from Gunay by that time. She demonstrated a very balanced and correct position on public issues."

According to the ex-MP, his son's behavior changed dramatically when his daughter put forward her candidacy for deputy: "After Gunay Agamaly put forward her candidacy, Elchin took a completely different position. He stated that he was returning to the party, intended to become chairman, and that it was his right. I took this normally. Then he began to create a split in the party, trying to gather supporters from among party members. I warned him that this needed to stop. He told me he would become party chairman. I replied that a congress would need to be held for this. In addition, I added that I could not entrust him with a party with years of history. Because he is an inconsistent person, indecisive in his positions. He only invests energy in what benefits him. He is not in politics. He is one of the party functionaries, and society knows him not as a politician, but in another capacity."

"Elchin's claims are complete lies from beginning to end," said Fazail Agamaly, emphasizing that he is categorically against his son leading the party:

"He is not worthy of leading the party. He is my son. I don't differentiate between son and daughter. What is happening now is my tragedy as a father. But I have no right to give him this party. I would much rather support the dissolution of the party to protect it from future shameful situations than allow him to become chairman. There is no place for Elchin in politics. All his words are lies. Now he shamelessly speaks about our great leader, praises our President. But have you met until today even one of his posts about the state, statehood, our national ideas? No. His dreams will remain dreams, and I will fight to the end so that he does not become party chairman."

Fazail Agamaly stated that on the first working day of next week, he will do everything possible for a legal investigation of what happened at the congress.
