The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is interested in financing projects to develop electric bus fleets in Azerbaijan.
This was stated in an interview with Report by EBRD Green Cities Programme Manager Lyn O'Grady.
"In the EBRD region, we have already successfully financed electric bus fleet development projects in Batumi, Samarkand, and Bishkek. Therefore, the bank would be very interested in implementing similar initiatives in Azerbaijan as well.
At the same time, it is extremely important that infrastructure development goes hand in hand with vehicle procurement. It is impossible to effectively introduce electric buses without creating an appropriate charging station network. That is why our financial packages provide for a comprehensive approach - supporting the procurement of electric buses, constructing specialized depots, and developing the necessary charging infrastructure," she said.
Furthermore, striving to enhance the sustainability of such projects, according to L. O'Grady, the EBRD is considering the possibility of equipping depots with solar panels - where conditions permit.
"Electromobility is one of the EBRD's key areas of activity. We are convinced that it is in this area that a significant impact can be achieved within the framework of the global energy transition, facilitating a gradual shift away from internal combustion engine vehicles," she emphasized.
