Construction of 28 new water reservoirs is planned in Azerbaijan
Construction of 28 new reservoirs is planned in Azerbaijan.
As BAKU.WS reports, this is reflected in the "State Program for Improving Water Supply, Rainwater and Wastewater Systems in Baku City and the Absheron Peninsula for 2026-2035," approved today by President Ilham Aliyev.
The document also provides for the complete modernization of drinking water disinfection systems.
The State Program aims to develop water supply and sewerage infrastructure in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, reduce flooding risks during heavy rainfall, and ensure uninterrupted and sustainable water supply. The program will be implemented in two stages and will cover the period from 2026 to 2035.
In the first stage, from 2026-2030, the reconstruction and renovation of existing water supply and sewerage infrastructure is planned, using modern rainwater management technologies and wastewater reuse. The creation of "smart water networks," ensuring environmental safety, developing infrastructure in areas without centralized sewerage, as well as identifying and reducing losses in water supply networks are envisaged.
In the second stage, from 2031-2035, priority will be given to the construction of new reservoirs and pumping stations, expansion of existing water supply and sewerage networks, implementation of modern service models, and implementation of rainwater reuse projects while strengthening environmental protection measures.
