Chilean diplomat: The goal for 2026 is to develop trade relations with Azerbaijan
Chile is interested in developing trade and economic relations with Azerbaijan; this is the main goal for 2026.
This was stated to Report by the Chargé d'Affaires of Chile in Baku, Juan Carlos Salazar Álvarez.
According to him, the main task at present is to develop bilateral trade between the countries: "Right now we are trying to improve bilateral trade - this is our main goal for the current year."
Speaking about the most promising areas of economic cooperation, the diplomat said that Chile is interested in Azerbaijani technologies and pharmaceuticals, and also hopes to expand supplies of its products to Azerbaijan.
"We purchase some technologies for companies from Azerbaijan, as well as pharmaceuticals. For our part, we would like to more actively offer our products, such as fish products, especially salmon, as well as dried fruits, fresh fruits, and other minerals," Álvarez added.
The diplomat emphasized that Chile and Azerbaijan have established active cooperation on international platforms.
"Relations are very good in the sphere of multilateral cooperation. We cooperate within the framework of the UN, the Human Rights Council, as well as at various economic platforms. We also interacted when Azerbaijan chaired the Non-Aligned Movement; there was active political cooperation within the framework of COP29 as well," Álvarez said.
He also noted that the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan has significant potential.
"This is my first visit to Karabakh. I am very glad to have the opportunity to see how Azerbaijan is looking to the future and restoring this region, which was in a state of conflict for a long time and now lives in peace. It is very interesting to see what exactly the government of Azerbaijan plans to do," the diplomat noted.
According to him, the region has significant potential for development.
"I very much want this region to become a territory of promising development for the country," the Chargé d'Affaires added.
