Book "Irevan: Echo of History and Lost Heritage" presented
On April 15, the Maksud Ibrahimbekov Creativity Center, with the support of Leyla Aliyeva, hosted the presentation of the book "Irevan: Echo of History and Lost Heritage" by Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Farida Safiyeva, published in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, and French.
As reported by BAKU.WS, Leyla Aliyeva and Alyona Aliyeva attended the presentation.
Before the event began, a minute of silence was observed in memory of the outstanding ophthalmologist-scientist, academician, and public figure of Azerbaijan, Zarifa Aliyeva, on the anniversary of her death.
Then, Director of the Maksud Ibrahimbekov Creativity Center Anna Ibrahimbekova spoke, noting that the presented book is interesting and significant. She expressed her satisfaction that the book presentation was taking place at this very venue.
Chairman of the Board of the "Icherisheher" State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration Rufat Mahmud said that Icherisheher is important not only as a tourist center but also as a center of art, creativity, and intellectual activity, emphasizing that holding such events is a manifestation of this function.
Head of the Department of Western Azerbaijan History at the Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, editor of the book Jabi Bakhramov noted that the project is important from both historical and legal perspectives, pointing out that Irevan has an ancient history and that the origin of the region's toponyms dates back to a very ancient period.
Executive Director of the Agency for State Support of Non-Governmental Organizations Aygun Aliyeva particularly emphasized in her speech the importance of preparing and presenting such books to the public.
Specially noting that she is originally from Irevan, the author of the book Farida Safiyeva said that she perceives writing this work not only as a scholarly endeavor but also as her moral responsibility and duty. According to her, preserving and passing on to future generations the truth about the history, cultural heritage, and memory of her homeland is the obligation of every Irevanian.
The event continued with an artistic segment, and participants were presented with an interesting and rich cultural program.
It should be noted that the purpose of preparing the book is to prove on a scientific basis that the city of Irevan is an ancient center of civilization and culture belonging to the Azerbaijani people. The work thoroughly examines the centuries-old history of the city, its rich cultural heritage, and the lives and works of outstanding individuals who played an important role in its formation. Despite attempts to deliberately erase the Azerbaijani identity of Irevan as a result of the tragic events of the 19th-20th centuries, its authentic appearance is reflected in archival documents, photographs, and scholarly sources. This research is an important scholarly work that serves to restore these realities, study the forgotten Azerbaijani national-cultural heritage of Irevan, and pass it on to future generations.
