Bayramov: More than 50 countries asked Azerbaijan to help with the evacuation of citizens from Iran
More than 50 countries have appealed to Azerbaijan for assistance in evacuating over 2,500 of their citizens from Iran amid the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov at a joint briefing in Baku with his Moldovan counterpart Mihai Popșoi.
According to him, the ongoing military escalation in the region creates additional risks, in connection with which all structural divisions of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs have switched to an enhanced working mode from the very first days. Citizens in the risk zone are being evacuated at the earliest opportunity.
Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan has already received requests for the evacuation of about 1,000 people from five countries, in particular, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.
"In addition, on March 4, AZAL airline organized a special evacuation flight from Jeddah, which transported 209 people, of whom 193 were citizens of Azerbaijan," the minister said.
He added that citizens in need of evacuation also remain in Qatar, so another special flight from Jeddah is planned for March 7.
The Foreign Minister also reported that Azerbaijani citizens are located on the territory of Iran. Furthermore, more than 50 countries have appealed to Baku for assistance in evacuating their citizens.
"More than 50 states have sent us requests for the evacuation of over 2,500 of their citizens. These requests are forwarded to the Cabinet of Ministers, and the processes are organized within just a few hours," Bayramov emphasized.
