Anar Guliyev: Our territories are among the most mine-contaminated regions in the world
The liberated territories of Azerbaijan continue to remain among the most mine-contaminated regions in the world.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by the Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Anar Guliyev at an event within the framework of WUF13 in Baku.
According to him, more than 900,000 hectares of territory are contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance. "According to estimates, approximately 1.5 million mines have been planted in the territory of the region. Since November 2020, as a result of large-scale demining operations, more than 262,000 hectares of territory have been cleared, and more than 246,000 mines and unexploded ordnance have been neutralized," he said.
Guliyev noted that in parallel with reconstruction work, Azerbaijan has implemented a new management model for post-conflict territories.
