Ambassador: Defense cooperation with Azerbaijan will be actively developed in the next 3-4 years
Defense cooperation between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan will be actively developing over the next 3-4 years.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, this was stated by the new UK Ambassador to Azerbaijan Duncan Norman.
According to him, the strategic partnership between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan remains strong, while the parties are working on a document that will cover a wide range of areas of cooperation.
"It was previously announced that bilateral relations would be elevated to the level of strategic partnership. We are currently working on documents covering a wide range of areas, including political and economic cooperation, interaction in the field of defense, and other areas," the diplomat said.
He noted that the document is being developed jointly with the government of Azerbaijan.
"Once the work on the document is completed, the strategic partnership between the countries will move to practical implementation," the ambassador emphasized.
He also noted that the appointment of a permanent UK military attaché in Azerbaijan in 2025 was an important step in the development of bilateral cooperation.
"This is indeed a significant step. And the good news is that he continues to work here," Norman said.
According to him, defense cooperation between the two countries is a new area:
"As with any new relationship, you need to start small and gradually develop it. That is exactly what we are doing now. I am confident that over the next three to four years, our cooperation will expand significantly. I see this as one of the promising areas for the development of relations between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan."
