A monument to architect Ajami Nakhchivani has been unveiled at the "Ajami Seyrangahy" complex in Nakhchivan
On August 11, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the unveiling of a monument to architect Ajami Nakhchivani at the "Ajami Seyrangahy" recreation complex in the city of Nakhchivan.
As reported by AZERTAC, one of the authors of the monument, People's Artist Salkhab Mammadov, informed the head of our state and the First Lady about the monument.
It should be noted that this year marks the 900th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding representative of Azerbaijani architecture, founder of the Nakhchivan architectural school, Ajami Nakhchivani.
Last year, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on the celebration of the 900th anniversary of Ajami Nakhchivani, as well as the erection of a monument to him.
The monumental complex was created with the aim of presenting the rich architectural heritage of the great Azerbaijani architect Ajami Nakhchivani based on a more contemporary approach.
The authors of the monument are People's Artists Salkhab Mammadov, Ali Ibadullayev, and Chairman of the Union of Architects of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Heydar Ahmadov. The height of the sculpture is 270 cm, the pedestal is 90 cm, and the total height of the monument is 385 cm. The sculpture is made of bronze, and the pedestal is made of granite. Landscaping works have been carried out on the territory of the complex, and green plantings have been planted.
Perpetuating the memory of architect Ajami Nakhchivani, who played an important role in the development of medieval Azerbaijani architecture, is above all a demonstration of the attention paid by the Azerbaijani state to the brilliant heritage of our historical figures. The implementation of this project is also one of the important measures to convey their legacy to future generations.
On the initiative of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the 850th anniversary of Ajami Nakhchivani was solemnly celebrated in Azerbaijan in 1976. The inclusion of his 900th anniversary in the list of anniversaries celebrated under UNESCO plays an important role in the broader promotion of the riches of centuries-old Azerbaijani culture at the international level.
