A meeting took place between Ilham Aliyev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov

On July 16, a one-on-one meeting took place between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

As reported by BAKU.WS, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The head of our state and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan took a joint photo.

Speaking at the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev said:

Welcome to Azerbaijan. I sincerely welcome you. I am confident that your visit will contribute to the development of brotherly relations between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Our peoples are united by deep traditions of brotherhood, and during the period of independence, these ties have strengthened even more. We successfully cooperate in many areas. The two countries, pursuing independent policies, look to the future with confidence. The historical ties between us are the foundation for today's relations. I am sure that your visit will give a new impetus to our relations. We have many achievements in the political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres, including in the field of transport and energy, and, of course, today we will exchange views on future cooperation.

Dear members of the delegations,

First of all, let me sincerely thank you for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan, for the hospitality and cordiality shown.

I also have the honor to convey to you warm greetings and best wishes from His Excellency the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

My current visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan has as its main goal to further strengthen and develop bilateral relations, consolidate the achievements reached, and provide incentives for the implementation of new projects and directions.

In general, characterizing the current level of Turkmen-Azerbaijani interstate relations, I would define them in three words: brotherhood, good neighborliness, cooperation.

We rely on a solid historical foundation, the commonality and kinship of the two peoples, mutual understanding of the need for each other, a clear vision of the strategic prospects for partnership, readiness to use the combined political, economic, and resource potential for the benefit of our peoples and states, for their well-being and prosperity.

It is natural that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan today have a solid and broad cooperation agenda - in foreign policy, economy, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. Thanks to efforts from both sides, our interaction is distinguished by purposefulness and specificity, it has a stable and sustainable character, and shows good dynamics. The key, decisive factor in this is the highest level of mutual understanding and trust achieved between the leaders of our countries. This allows us to make correct and timely decisions on all issues of bilateral cooperation, to ensure the implementation of the agreements reached.

In the sphere of foreign policy, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan take principled and firm positions based on adherence to the UN Charter and recognized international legal norms. Our countries make an important contribution to maintaining stability and security in the world and on the continent, in regional issues, in the Caspian Sea zone.

We cooperate successfully and effectively in major international organizations, primarily in the UN, in a number of regional structures. In this regard, I would like to congratulate Azerbaijan on the recent successful holding of the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in the city of Khankendi.

Trade and economic partnership is developing successfully, its qualitative and quantitative indicators are growing.

Traditional ties in culture, science, education, at the personal, human level are expanding.

The significance and role of inter-parliamentary cooperation and public diplomacy as essential elements of interstate relations are growing.

I am confident that this visit will become an important factor in further bringing Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan closer together, developing coordinated approaches in the context of implementing a long-term cooperation strategy.

Once again, I thank you, dear Ilham Heydar oglu, for the warm reception that we always feel on the land of brotherly Azerbaijan.
