5 years ago, the fourth missile strike was carried out on Ganja
On October 11, 2020, just a few hours after the signing of a ceasefire agreement, at 02:00 local time, the armed forces of Armenia launched a fourth missile strike on the city of Ganja - the second largest city in Azerbaijan.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, the shelling was conducted with Scud-type ballistic missiles from Armenian military positions in the Berd district of Armenia. The missile hit a residential building directly, completely destroying it. Rescue teams arrived at the scene of the incident in the shortest possible time.
"The strike caused serious damage to the city's infrastructure. In total, 31 residential buildings were completely destroyed, nearby buildings and vehicles were damaged. 95 apartments, home to 205 people, were affected by the attack. As a result of the missile strike, 10 people were killed and another 40 were injured, including women and children among the victims. Armenia denies responsibility for this barbaric act," the defense ministry's statement said.
On the same day, Armenian forces also targeted the Mingachevir hydroelectric power station, but the missiles were neutralized by the air defense systems (ADS) of the Azerbaijani army.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case regarding the missile strikes on Ganja.
It should be recalled that during the Second Karabakh War, Armenian armed forces struck Ganja with missiles and artillery five times (October 4, 5, 8, 11, 17). As a result, 26 people were killed, 175 were wounded, and colossal damage was inflicted on the city's infrastructure and transport.
