Today is the birthday of People's Artist of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Maniev

Today marks the birthday of the outstanding Azerbaijani theater and film actor, People's Artist Mukhtar Maniev.

As Oxu.Az reminds, the future artist was born on April 4, 1935, in Baku.

He graduated from secondary school No. 199 and then the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry (now the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University - ed.).

However, his love for art led him to the Azerbaijan Institute of Arts, where he received his second degree. His first film role was in the movie Onu bağışlamaq olarmı? ("Can He Be Forgiven?").

He then starred in the film Koroğlu ("Koroghlu"). At that time, Mukhtar Maniev was still in his first year of studies. Speaking about this role, film critics unanimously acknowledged that a new trend had come to cinema, that an actor of an entirely different, new type had arrived.

He appeared in nearly 160 films. The actor successfully created a wide variety of characters on screen. Among his characters are positive and negative, comedic and serious roles. Mukhtar Maniev's body of work is associated with a significant era in the history of national cinematography.

The actor had successful roles in the films İnsan məskən salır ("A Man Casts Anchor"), Qara Volqa ("The Black Volga"), O qızı tapın ("Find That Girl"), Bizim Cəbiş müəllim ("Our Teacher Jabish"), Babək ("Babek"), Ölsəm... Bağışla ("Temple of Air," literally "If I Die... Forgive Me"), Bəyin oğurlanması ("The Groom Was Stolen"), Nəsimi ("Nasimi"), Bəxt üzüyü ("The Wedding Ring"), "Don't Be Afraid, I'm With You," etc.

In addition to his active work in cinema, the actor also very frequently appeared in the satirical film magazine "Mozalan" (which translates as "gadfly" - ed.).

People's Artist Mukhtar Maniev passed away on December 22, 2016.
