Earthquake risk in Baku: will the capital's buildings withstand underground tremors?

In order for buildings to be earthquake-resistant, first of all, it is necessary to strictly comply with building codes.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated in an interview with İTV by civil engineer Shahin Mamedov, who has more than 40 years of experience.
According to the specialist, structural solutions such as symmetrical design and the use of short columns significantly increase the seismic resistance of buildings.
"After the completion of construction, it is necessary to check whether any changes were made to the structure that could negatively affect its stability. Without obtaining permission from the relevant official structures, any interventions in the building are unacceptable," the engineer noted.
