The city of Shusha was liberated from Armenian occupation on November 8, 2020, on the 43rd day of the Patriotic War, which began on September 27. Under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, the valiant Azerbaijani army cleared the city of the enemy. The three-colored flag of Azerbaijan was raised in the center of the liberated city. On the same day, President Ilham Aliyev, in an address to the people from the Alley of Martyrs, announced the liberation of Shusha from occupation.
The battle for Shusha became one of the most successful operations of our army in the second Karabakh war, which ended with Azerbaijan's victory. During the battles, Azerbaijani military personnel, overcoming dense forests, impassable gorges, and difficult mountain passes, headed toward Shusha. On November 7, 2020, the Special Forces of the Azerbaijani army, climbing rocks with light weapons, entered Shusha.
During the battles for Shusha, ballistic missiles from the Iskander operational-tactical missile system were fired from the Armenian side, targeting Azerbaijani military personnel. Despite this, our army quickly destroyed the Armenian troops, expelled them from the city, and on November 8, Shusha was liberated from the enemy.
In May 2021, by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the city of Shusha was declared the cultural capital of Azerbaijan. At the same time, on May 12-13, 2021, the "Kharibulbul" music festival was held at Jidir Duzu.
