On October 28, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the "Shams" and "Ufug" solar power plants with a capacity of 50 MW each in the Shahvelli village of Jabrayil district.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to AZERTAC, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov informed the head of state about the "Shams" solar power plant with a capacity of 50 MW.

It was noted that this project is an important component of our country's green energy strategy and marks the beginning of a new stage in the formation of the energy map of Jabrayil district.

It should be noted that in March 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant, as well as the production, sale, and consumption of electricity, was signed between the Ministry of Energy and Nobel Energy company. Then in April of this year, the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan concluded investment agreements with Enerso Jabrayil LLC for the "Ufug" solar power plant project with a capacity of 50 MW and with Clean Energy Jabrayil LLC for the "Shams" solar power plant project.

Last year, 229 hectares of state land were allocated in the administrative territory of Jabrayil district for the development of renewable energy sources. As part of this, Clean Energy Jabrayil LLC was allocated an area of over 135 hectares, and Enerso Jabrayil LLC - more than 93 hectares.

President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the "Shams" solar power plant, then participated in the foundation-laying ceremony for the "Ufug" solar power plant.

It was reported that the "Shams" and "Ufug" solar power plants will generate a total of 206 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. As a result, an annual saving of about 44 million cubic meters of natural gas is expected, as well as a reduction in harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 96 thousand tons.

75 million kilowatt-hours of electricity generated at the stations will be sold to the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "AzerEnerji", and 131 million kilowatt-hours - through purchase and sale agreements concluded directly with large consumers based on the principle of "virtual electricity transmission". The commissioning of the "Shams" and "Ufug" solar power plants is scheduled for 2027.

The implementation of these projects will enhance the role of Jabrayil district in transforming Eastern Zangezur into a green energy center.
