The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan condemned the provocation at the embassy in Moscow and demanded an immediate investigation from Russia

On the afternoon of August 27, unknown individuals placed provocative anti-Azerbaijani placards in front of the guest house of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan strongly condemned the incident, qualifying it as a deliberate act of sabotage.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, this unacceptable provocation is aimed at artificially escalating tensions in Azerbaijani-Russian relations. The ministry also did not rule out that the incident is part of a biased and dirty campaign against Azerbaijan that has recently been launched on a number of Russian media platforms.

The Azerbaijani side called on the competent authorities of the Russian Federation to provide a proper legal assessment of such provocative actions, ensure a comprehensive investigation of the incident, and take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such cases in the future.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan also reminded Moscow of its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 — a fundamental document of international law governing the activities of diplomatic missions. According to Article 22 of the Convention, the receiving state is obliged to take all appropriate measures to protect the premises of the diplomatic mission from any intrusion or damage.

"We expect the Russian side to fully fulfill its obligations to ensure an adequate level of security for the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its staff, as well as to prevent any provocative actions that could interfere with the normal activities of the diplomatic mission," the Azerbaijani foreign ministry emphasized.
