Azerbaijan considers its centuries-old religious coexistence as an important part of its national identity and cultural diplomacy.

This is stated in a report by Euronews television channel dedicated to freedom of religion in the country.

The report notes that in Azerbaijan, Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities have lived in peace and mutual understanding for generations. The Catholic church in Baku serves both foreigners and local residents. Its priests regularly meet with the Sheikh ul-Islam, as well as with the heads of the Jewish and Orthodox communities. Historic churches in the Sheki and Gakh districts, preserved over centuries, reflect the country's rich Christian heritage and tradition of religious diversity.

Executive Director of the Baku International Center of Multiculturalism Ravan Hasanov told Euronews about the respect for religious values in Azerbaijan, emphasizing that various cultures and religions have coexisted here peacefully for centuries, rather than as isolated communities.

The report also notes that the state has invested significant resources in the restoration of religious buildings and monuments. Cooperation agreements have been signed with the Vatican, including a September 2025 memorandum on the digitization and restoration of historical manuscripts.
