On August 18, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to our country, Duncan Norman.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state.

Beginning his speech in the Azerbaijani language, Duncan Norman said: "Your Excellency, when my wife Carrie and I first came to Azerbaijan 27 years ago, we were very impressed by the kindness of the people and the enormous potential of Baku. Since then, Azerbaijan has come a long way in its development. It is a great honor for me to open a new page in relations between our countries."

Noting that work on a new strategic partnership between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan is ongoing, the ambassador emphasized that this will allow further development of cooperation on shared priorities and deepening of our achievements through strengthening security and innovation.

The ambassador expressed the British side's desire to establish a dynamic partnership with our country in the areas of renewable energy, defense, and aviation, and noted ties in the field of education and the strengthening of bridges between young people.

He said that the UK government highly values the efforts of President Ilham Aliyev to establish peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and supports the progress achieved.

Duncan Norman also recalled that his country was the first international partner to support Azerbaijan's demining efforts.

The head of our state wished the ambassador a pleasant stay in Baku and highly praised his knowledge of the Azerbaijani language.

President Ilham Aliyev said that the issues on the agenda are of great importance not only on a bilateral level but also from the standpoint of regional development and cooperation.

Expressing gratitude to the UK government for its assistance in the field of demining, the head of state noted that our country needs closer international cooperation in this area.

Recalling that Azerbaijani-British cooperation began thirty years ago precisely in the energy sector, President Ilham Aliyev noted that there is currently great potential for partnership in the field of renewable energy. In this context, he pointed out that the company bp is building the first solar power plant in the territories liberated from occupation.

Noting that in 35 years of independence, Azerbaijan has lived one year in conditions of peace, the head of state emphasized that this is a major change for the region.

President Ilham Aliyev said that, given the situation in the region, security will continue to remain a priority on our agenda.

Emphasizing that a favorable investment climate has been created in our country, the head of state noted the existence of great mutual interest on the part of Azerbaijani and British companies.

President Ilham Aliyev wished the ambassador success in his activities.
