Pashinyan: Fuel imports from Azerbaijan saved Armenia tens of billions

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared the economic benefits for the country from trade with Azerbaijan, particularly the import of petroleum products.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Armenian media, he made this statement during his speech at the National Assembly.

"Thanks to the import of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to the Republic of Armenia, citizens and residents of Armenia have saved tens of billions. The import of Azerbaijani petroleum products is the final factor thanks to which we completed the operation to eliminate the monopoly on the petroleum products market, which lasted 8 years. Why 8 years? Because we are fighting the mafia. This mafia is not only an internal Armenian mafia; it sometimes has other branches in other places," Pashinyan said.

He added that potential crises, including the situation around the Strait of Hormuz, would have had a greater impact on the country's economy if not for the launch of deliveries via the Azerbaijani railway to Armenia.

It should be recalled that in October 2025, President Ilham Aliyev announced the lifting of restrictions on the transit of goods through Azerbaijan to Armenia.

Direct fuel deliveries from Azerbaijan to Armenia began on December 18, 2025.

Since December of last year, 6,312 tons of diesel fuel, 979 tons of AI-92 gasoline, and 2,955 tons of AI-95 gasoline have been exported from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
