On October 17, the official opening of the administrative office of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Holy See took place.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the event was attended by the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Holy See Ilgar Mukhtarov provided information about the embassy's administrative office. It was noted that the embassy's administrative office is located on Via Conciliazione - the main street leading to St. Peter's Basilica, in close proximity to the Vatican Apostolic Palace. This area also houses Vatican official institutions and administrative offices of several embassies accredited to the Holy See.

It was emphasized that relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Holy See have been developing in an upward trend in recent years in the spirit of mutual interests, respect and fruitful cooperation, and this interaction is further deepening and acquiring a multifaceted character.

Then, the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva and the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin exchanged views over tea on bilateral relations and the international agenda, as well as other topics of mutual interest.

Given that the Holy See is the spiritual and ideological center for more than a billion Catholics worldwide, the activities of Azerbaijan's diplomatic mission here are of particular importance in terms of conveying the realities of our country to the global community.

It should be noted that in 2021, President Ilham Aliyev signed a law on the official establishment of Azerbaijan's embassy to the Holy See. In 2022, Ilgar Mukhtarov was appointed as our country's first resident ambassador to the Holy See.
