Hikmet Hajiyev: Baku has not yet decided on participation in peacekeeping mission in Gaza

Azerbaijan has not made a final decision on participating in the international peacekeeping contingent in the Gaza Strip, despite statements from US representatives.

As reported by BAKU.WS, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev in an interview with Nikkei stated that Baku is cautious about such initiatives.

The Presidential Assistant noted that it would be difficult for Azerbaijan to participate in the mission within the framework of the US-mediated ceasefire plan due to the unclear mandate.

According to him, Washington did approach Baku with a proposal to include Azerbaijani military personnel in the "International Stabilization Forces," however, a final decision has not yet been made. H. Hajiyev emphasized that the UN Security Council resolution does not contain clear provisions on the rules for the use of force and the framework of the mission's mandate.

Note that earlier, the US Permanent Representative to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated that countries such as Azerbaijan and Indonesia had allegedly already agreed to send their forces to Gaza as part of an international contingent.
