Chapter of state agency: Accessibility of drinking water in Azerbaijan is almost 74%, in the EU - 95%
Availability of drinking water in Azerbaijan is 73.4%, almost 74%, in the European Union (EU) - 95%. The continuity of water supply in Azerbaijan is 72.5%, in Baku and Absheron, as you also noted, - 70%. The reason for these differences in indicators is due to the large-scale development work carried out in recent years in the regions. Therefore, the availability of uninterrupted water supply there is higher.
As reported by BAKU.WS, this was stated by the chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan Zaur Mikailov at a meeting dedicated to the State Program for improving water supply, rainwater and wastewater systems in the city of Baku and on the Absheron Peninsula for 2026-2035, which was held under the chairmanship of President Ilham Aliyev.
"As you can see, compared to the European Union, our level of meter coverage is higher - 91.9%, about 92%.
But we also have a higher rate of water loss. Actual water losses amount to 38.6%, while the average in the European Union is 22%. At the same time, as you noted, our losses are almost 46%. This is because, along with this, there is also water in internal use, which is also counted as losses. In Europe, this figure is 3%, and in Azerbaijan - at the level of 9%," noted Z. Mikailov.
