On April 22, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, visited "Baku White City".

As reported by BAKU.WS, executive director of the "Baku White City" project Ruslan Sadykhov informed the President of Latvia about the work completed and currently underway.

It was noted that the territory was once known as "Black City" due to excessive contamination over more than 150 years by oil industry waste and the formation of numerous oil ponds. On the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan, this territory was transformed into a globally unique environmental project — a modern residential area.

The "Baku White City" project is one of the most striking examples of the modern urban planning concept in the world. The project was launched on December 24, 2011, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. It was developed based on the principles of environmental friendliness, sustainability, and "smart city".
